Brno - The Brno City Council today approved an accelerated process for the amendment of the zoning plan necessary for the construction of a new pavilion at the Trauma Hospital for half a billion crowns. The zoning plan amendment will take about a year. The actual construction of the pavilion, which will include operating rooms, an emergency department, and intensive care units, could begin in 2021, with plans for parking spaces as well. The work should be completed within two years from the start.
The pavilion will be opposite the current complex on the site of a parking lot. The area is designated for healthcare in the zoning plan, so construction is allowed there. However, it is insufficient in size for the planned pavilion. "Therefore, we will change a part of the area with the helipad and asphalt, which is listed in the zoning plan as a public space where construction is not allowed, to be used for healthcare purposes," stated Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-(ČSL).
As a result, it will be possible to build on the site, and there will be enough space for the pavilion. Additionally, there will be room for greenery, allowing for a park. The new facility will offer eight floors and a helipad on the roof. The first four floors will feature a parking lot with 160 spaces. This will replace the current parking spaces and also increase the number of parking spots for patients and visitors.
On the fifth to seventh floors, there will be seven operating rooms, as the current ones are in inadequate condition. The anesthesiology-resuscitation department and intensive care unit will find their space on the upper floors. 26 beds will be created for them. The last floor will house central sterilization and technical facilities.
The Trauma Hospital performs approximately 7,000 surgeries annually. It is one of the hospitals managed by the city of Brno. The other is the Hospital of the Merciful Brothers, which it rents from the Order of the Merciful Brothers.
