Brno - Brno plans to build a new pavilion for the Accident Hospital for an estimated half a billion crowns. It will be located where the current parking lot is, opposite the hospital complex. It will include operating rooms, central sterilization, a helipad, and a parking lot with 160 spaces. This was stated today by the mayor's deputy, Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL). According to him, the current operating rooms must operate in a limited capacity. If everything goes smoothly, construction could begin in 2020. Besides the Accident Hospital, Brno also manages the Mercy Brothers' Hospital.

Hladík noted that the number of surgeries is increasing, and more and more people want to undergo surgical, orthopedic, as well as urological and gynecological procedures in one of Brno's hospitals. "At the Accident Hospital, we perform more than 7,000 surgeries annually. Currently, the operating rooms are functioning in a more limited regime due to a hygiene exemption. From a long-term perspective, this is neither possible nor sustainable," said Hladík.

According to him, the new building will include operating rooms for the anesthesiology-resuscitation department (ARO) and the intensive care unit (ICU). "As a result, spaces will be freed up in the facilities on Ponávka, where the existing operating rooms are located. After their reconstruction, healthcare workers from the building on Koliště Street will be able to relocate there, making that building available for other purposes," added Hladík. The reconstruction of the released spaces in the hospital complex will cost nearly 40 million crowns before the healthcare facilities are moved into them.
