The ten modules of KOMA MODULAR create the spaces for an alcohol detoxification station in the complex of Jihlava Hospital. It has been operating in this form for more than two years, and the ongoing operation confirms that the new spaces, which replaced the previous detox unit located in the building of the Health Institute, serve their purpose without major issues. Clients will find sufficiently spacious rooms and other necessary facilities in the modular detox unit, meeting the legislative requirements for this type of facility.
Speed of construction as a decisive factor
A key criterion for the Vysočina Region in its role as investor when selecting the new detox station was the speed of construction. The modular solution was therefore an obvious choice. The company KOMA needed only one month to manufacture the modules for this project. The actual assembly then took another three months.
The building of the alcohol detox unit, with a total area of 260 square meters, consists of ten modules equipped with a secondary flat roof and a secondary facade designed by an architect, made from galvanized steel sheets with horizontal waves. The simple composition of the cuboid shapes of the individual modules arranged in an "L" shape meets the requirements for the smooth operation of a facility of this type. Another advantage of the modular building system is the possibility of disassembling the construction and subsequently using the modules at another location. The individual modules are only screwed together.
The facades of the modules were designed by the architect in two different shades, namely light gray and anthracite. The color contrast is provided by the frames of the window fillings, also designed in two colors.
Strength, safety, and durability
The staff of the detox station works with a specific group of clients, who often exhibit significant signs of aggression. This fact is reflected in the spatial and material solutions, which should withstand aggressive attacks as best as possible, further limit the possibility of injury to clients, and last but not least, protect the employees. For these reasons, the individual rooms resemble prison cells more than hospital rooms. Robust doors, grilles, and washable surfaces in the form of tiling or stainless steel wall cladding fulfill their purpose here. All constructions, including fittings, are realized in "anti-vandal" design, meaning they must meet requirements for strength, safety, and resistance to damage. The structures must withstand impacts from various parts of the human body. In the new detox building, clients will find their temporary refuge in six single rooms and two double rooms.
The interior shows a friendlier face in the staff area. They have gained comfortable facilities in the new building, including changing rooms, showers, and toilets. Common and communication areas are purely purposefully furnished in neutral colors. The walls and floors are covered with sheet PVC, chosen primarily for easy maintenance. The hallways have lowered ceilings, creating the necessary space for installation routes, including forced ventilation. Sufficient illumination of the hallways is provided by skylights. Adequate comfort of the interior environment throughout the year is ensured by underfloor heating and air conditioning.
The Jihlava alcohol detox unit ranks among a number of modular buildings of smaller scale, whose construction is associated with unparalleled speed and faster return on investment compared to traditional building methods.
