The largest contract that the Czech Republic has obtained on the African continent is the delivery of 5 modular airports. The company from Vizovice is the general contractor for the construction of airport terminals, hangars, and facilities thanks to innovative technologies.

The first airport will be constructed this year in the former capital – St. Louis. The complete design of the airport consists of a two-story terminal, a hangar, and two entrances. The airport is unique both in its modular technology and in the material used, which is adapted to the high temperatures and significant humidity on the African continent. “We have not built an airport from modules before. It has its specifics; we must consider that these are buildings with a large movement of people,” mentioned Kováč, the director of foreign trade at KOMA Modular.

The terminal consists of 100 modules, and thanks to the use of spaces between the modules, which were covered, it has a usable area of over 2,600 m2. It will be equipped with all the amenities you are accustomed to at airports – security screening, waiting areas for departures, VIP lounge, baggage claim, security and passport control, as well as administrative and technical support for the airport. The hangar will be made up of 30 modules.

How do the modules get from Vizovice to Senegal?

The modules began production at the beginning of February. In April, they were transported to the German port in Hamburg, where they awaited MAFI – platforms on which they were placed two by two. When the ship, which was to transport the modules, arrived, the platforms were hooked up to each other and the modules could move like a train into the hold of the ship Grande Angola. The ship took them to Dakar, from where they will again be transported to the construction site by truck.

The airport will rise in a few months, and it should be completed by the end of 2021.
