Vladimír's bookstore Serius and the civic association PLAC warmly invite you to the 34th lecture in the series "printed architecture." This time on Friday October 21, 2016 at 6:30 PM in Jablonec, we will welcome theorist Anežka Bartlová, who will present the publication Manual of the Monument.

The publication, in the form of a manual, summarizes practical information and experiences from the realization of monuments and memorials in our environment. Monuments are specific objects in public space, as they speak with a different urgency than sculptures, interventions, or decorative elements due to their memory and ideological basis. Our publication aims to show that underestimating the role and preparation of competitions for monuments and memorials is a mistake and seeks to propose a model of procedure that will help avoid negative outcomes. Part of the publication will focus on the manual itself, another on the theoretical delineation of the topic (Milena Bartlová, Ladislav Zikmund-Lender), part will be dedicated to exemplary realizations (Osamu Okamura, Hynek Látal) and the urban context and legislative-administrative process (Matěj Stropnický, Pavla Melková, and Jakub Hendrych [IPR]). The last part contains interviews with experienced monument authors (Kurt Gebauer, Petr Janda, Kryštof Kintera, Jaroslav Róna, Jiří Středa, Verejný podstavec [Dalibor Bača, Martin Piaček], Martin Zet). Graphics by Štěpán Marko.

Mgr. Anežka Bartlová, a student of the Department of Theory and History of Art at UMPRUM, is engaged in contemporary art criticism and mediation possibilities. In 2014, she received the Věra Jirousová Award in the category for emerging critics. She is focused on the topic of accompanying programs of cultural institutions and is working on the UMA Artguide project. She participated in the creation of the book Lapidárium (UMPRUM 2015).
