One of the most beautiful community halls in Plzeň will come to life again and become a meeting place for original and inspiring creators. As part of another installment of the world-renowned event PechaKucha Night, on March 1, 2013, starting at 20:20 in the sokolovna at Štruncovy sady, not only the activist group Ztohoven known for its controversial projects will be featured, but also many other architects, designers, and graphic artists.

The aim of PechaKucha Night Plzeň is to awaken places that once were part of the everyday life of the people of Plzeň but have gradually faded from public interest. “The sokolovna at Štruncovy sady was very important in the history of the city, but now it is cut off from the center of events due to its location,” says main organizer Jakub Mareš. The sokolovna was officially opened in 1896 and became the flagship of Plzeň architecture. Later, it served as a hospital, prosthetics were made in the orthopedic institute, and in 1942, Jewish transports were formed here.
During the evening, ten interesting creators and artistic groups from across the country will present their work, ideas, and plans through presentations in the 20x20 format. One of the presenters will be the architectural platform "re:" or Matěj Petránek, the author of the project Prazelenina. He focuses on urban gardening, which means growing food directly in the city as is common in many world metropolises. Next to present will be Koncern Design Studio, which focuses on industrial design. It holds several prestigious awards and exhibits its products worldwide. The bizarre designers Kabinet will reveal their unique collection of curiosities, jewelry, and accessories. The eccentric artists dealing with conceptual art Matěj and Filip Smetana will touch on a somewhat different topic, as Matěj deals with installations, comics, and video, while Filip creates sculptures. And, of course, the already mentioned activist group Ztohoven, which became known to the public primarily due to a staged explosion during a broadcast of ČT or the publication of the phone numbers of Czech politicians.
"The symbol of the sokolovna will weave throughout the evening, so there will be not only a stylish bar but also performances by the gymnastics section of TJ Sokol,” adds organizer Jitka Jirásková about the program. After all presentations, there will be an afterparty with DJ Santhose. Tickets can be purchased just before the start of the event in the sokolovna building at Štruncovy sady.
