Lednice - The main tourist season of the Lednice Castle in Břeclav, which is the most visited monument in South Moravia, will start next year with a new visitor center. The National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) will build it in the so-called Riding Hall, which has until now housed a multifunctional center. Representatives of NPÚ in Kroměříž, to which Lednice belongs, announced this in a press release.

"The National Heritage Institute is aware of the significant handicap posed by the currently insufficient visitor facilities at Lednice Castle. The size and location of the spaces, where the ticket offices and a temporary souvenir shop are currently located, have long failed to provide visitors with services of the needed quality," stated the director of NPÚ in Kroměříž, Petr Šubík.

Lednice Castle, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is visited by approximately 400,000 people annually. The new visitor center will offer more space, additional ticket offices for faster processing, a larger souvenir shop, toilets, and small refreshments.

"The main bonus of the new facilities is its size, which will far surpass the currently small spaces of the ticket offices and finally provide visitors with the appropriate comfort. Along with the new visitor center, a new operational facility, a historical archive with a reading room, will be established on the second floor of the 'Riding Hall'; part of it will serve the activities of interest clubs," said Šubík.

The Riding Hall was renovated eight years ago by the region for half a billion crowns using European grants. The new multifunctional center opened five years ago, offering conference halls and classrooms. However, its operation had to be subsidized by partners in the association formed by the region, the municipality of Lednice, the Tourism Center, Masaryk University, and Mendel University.

According to Šubík, NPÚ expects that members of the association of the Multifunctional Center of Lednice Castle will still be able to use the spaces for the purposes they served for the past five years. The new tourist center is set to open at the start of the new tourist season, on May 1 next year.
