Lednice - Conservators want to improve the infrastructure of the Lednice park with 200 million crowns from European funds. The investment is expected to include the restoration of sculptures and the renovation of catacombs, said ČTK curator Ivana Holásková. Whether the project will receive support from the Integrated Regional Operational Program (IROP) will presumably be announced this year.

Lednice Castle is one of the most visited monuments in the country. This year, experts completed the stabilization of the staircase at Janohrad and restored the Chinese wallpapers on the first floor.

"This year we will only be waiting to see if we will receive a grant from IROP for the park's infrastructure," said Holásková. According to her, the project will include equipping the park with benches, restoring statues and vases, repairing pathways, and heritage restoration of the catacombs, Hubert's lodge, and the Moorish house, where information centers and exhibition spaces are to be established.

"We have requested an amount of 200 million crowns, and if we are successful, it will be one of the largest investment projects in Lednice. Its implementation could begin in 2018,"
said Holásková.

So far this year, Lednice Castle has been visited by ten percent more people than last year. The castle management strives to offer something new or a program each year. "A major attraction is the nighttime guided tours, which take place every July and are traditionally sold out long in advance. Tourists from all over the world come to admire the castle park not only during the blooming tulip season but also for the beautiful summer plantings," said Holásková.

According to her, the entire castle area offers many activities - carriages, boats, birds of prey, archery. This is why it ranks among the most visited European monuments. Last year, the monument was visited by over 400,000 people.
