Vysoké Mýto - Vysoké Mýto selected a design for a new funeral hall. According to the architectural study by the studio Projektil architekti, it will be built on the site of the current hall at the cemetery, which is oversized and in poor condition. Construction began before 1989 as part of a civic action, meaning it was built with the help of resident brigades. However, due to a lack of funds, work was interrupted despite the structure being relatively far along. It was completed in the mid-1990s, Mayor František Jiraský (Independent) told reporters today.
"The building suffers from structural problems, part of it is built on embankments and part on natural ground. The perimeter walls are constantly cracking and there are issues with the load-bearing structures," said Jiraský. The facility was once also designed to serve as a base for municipal services, and in the basement, there were warehouses, a workshop, and changing rooms. Spatially it is oversized and cannot even be heated.
Architect Roman Brychta from the studio Projektil architekti proposed a new white circular hall with a glass roof and internal walls, whose cylinder is set into a lower square roof for mourning meetings. Access to the building will be through a cherry orchard that the city will have planted.
Next year, the city hall will prepare project documentation and apply for a building permit. Demolition of the old funeral hall will begin in 2021, and the new one is expected to be completed a year later. The city aims to limit costs to 40 million crowns, to which additional expenses for tearing down the original building will be added. Everything will be financed by Mýto from its own budget.
During the construction period, the city hall arranged for funeral services to take place in the facilities of Christian churches in the city. Mýto will rent the new hall for farewells to the deceased to individual funeral services. Until now, it had been long-term rented to a local funeral service.
