In Vysoké Mýto, construction work on a funeral hall will begin in May

Vysoké Mýto - Construction of a mourning hall will begin in Vysoké Mýto in May. It will cost almost 104 million crowns and will replace the original one, which is in poor condition and needs to be demolished. Since last year, the conversion of the mortuary into public toilets and the construction of a columbarium have also been ongoing, both projects totaling 15 million crowns will be completed this year.

"The mourning hall is morally outdated. The building dates back to the turn of the 80s and 90s, but it mainly shows serious structural defects, and it makes no sense to try to repair it," said Deputy Mayor Martin Krejza (ODS) to reporters today. The opening of the new mourning hall is planned for the end of 2024.

Architect Roman Brychta from the studio Roman Brychta Architekti, in collaboration with local designers BKN, has designed a new white circular hall with a glass roof and internal walls, whose cylinder is set into a lower square roof for mourning gatherings. The building will be accessed through a cherry orchard that the city will plant. The landscape design comes from architect Zdeněk Sendler from the Brno studio of garden and landscape architecture Sendler.

During the construction, the city hall has arranged mourning ceremonies in the premises of Christian churches in the city. If the bereaved do not agree, they would have to arrange the last farewell in another city.
