Prague - The proposal from the Ministry of Finance to sell the Hanácké Barracks in the center of Olomouc, which the army used for 170 years, was approved by the government today. This follows from information on government websites. Since 2013, the extensive property has been vacant, and its further use for state officials would be much more costly according to the ministry than selling it and potentially building a new administrative headquarters. The real estate transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
The building of the Hanácké Barracks has office space of over 2,000 square meters. Initially, it was contemplated that hundreds of state office workers, who are currently located in multiple places in Olomouc, would move into it. This option has been dismissed; according to experts, it would be less advantageous for the state than selling.
The materials indicate that the sale of the barracks could bring approximately a quarter of a billion crowns to the state. In contrast, the reconstruction of the listed building would cost around 815 million CZK according to estimates. Most rooms in the Hanácké Barracks, according to the presentation report, are unsuitable as office spaces due to high ceilings and their shape.
Building a new administrative headquarters in Olomouc is estimated to cost around 575 million. Employees from state organizations currently located in rented spaces or state buildings, which are too expensive to operate, could relocate there. Potential candidates include the Olomouc branches of the General Directorate of Customs, the State Veterinary Administration, the Cadastral Office for the Olomouc Region, and the Czech School Inspectorate.
According to the Office for the Representation of the State in Property Matters, a new administrative building could be constructed on the land of the General Directorate of Customs near Polská Street. "It is anticipated that the General Directorate of Customs would be one of the future users of the new administrative center, thereby resolving its unsatisfactory property, rental, and relocation situation in the city of Olomouc," the document for the government states.
In 2014, the Olomouc Region expressed interest in the Hanácké Barracks building, intending to create museum and library depositories, offices for organizations ensuring European subsidies, and a store for regional food. The regional government has ultimately abandoned this plan.
