Olomouc – The state was unable to sell the vast complex of Hanácká barracks in Olomouc even in the third electronic auction. The auction started on Tuesday and ended today at 10:00, but the only registered bidder did not place a bid. Michaela Tesařová, spokesperson for the Office for the Representation of the State in Property Matters (ÚZSVM), said this to ČTK. The previous two rounds of the selection procedure had the same outcome. ÚZSVM will inform Palacký University in Olomouc about the results of the electronic auction, which had previously expressed preliminary interest in directly purchasing the complex.
The minimum price for the Hanácká barracks in the third round of the electronic auction was again 262 million crowns. The auction could begin on Tuesday because one interested party deposited a guarantee of 27 million crowns. "One bidder registered for the electronic auction and submitted the required deposit within the specified timeframe; however, no bids were made during the auction. Therefore, ÚZSVM will now take further steps to find a new owner for this exceptional and historically valuable complex as soon as possible," Tesařová stated.
Egon Havrlant, spokesperson for Palacký University, told ČTK today that negotiations regarding the Hanácká barracks should continue. "We will continue discussions in collaboration with the region and the city. We certainly want to jointly strive for this historically valuable site to have a dignified use," Havrlant stated.
The Hanácká barracks were used by the army for 170 years and have been empty since 2013. Only one bidder registered for the first round of the selection procedure at the beginning of September but did not make a bid. The same outcome was observed in the November auction. In addition to the university, foreign investors were also interested in the Hanácká barracks.
The building of the Hanácká barracks has office space of over 2,000 square meters. Initially, it was considered that hundreds of employees of state offices, who currently work in multiple locations in Olomouc, would move into it. However, according to the Ministry of Defense, further use for state officials would be more expensive than selling and potentially building a new administrative headquarters.
In 2014, the Olomouc region expressed interest in the Hanácká barracks, wanting to establish repositories for the museum and library, offices for organizations managing European grants, and a store for regional food. Eventually, the regional authority abandoned the plan.
