The government has extended the deadline for the sale of the Hanácké barracks in Olomouc by one year

Prague - The government today extended the deadline for the sale of the Hanácká barracks in Olomouc by one year. This follows from the conclusions of the government meeting. According to the original decision from 2020, the state wanted to dispose of the property, for which it had no use, by the end of this year. The Olomouc region is interested in the property, and the city hall of the regional capital would like to use it as well.

Three years ago, the government decided to sell the Hanácká barracks as unnecessary and unused state property. The Office for Representation of the State in Property Matters (ÚZSVM) organized four auctions, but the property could not be sold even for the minimum purchase price of 249 million crowns. This year, the Ministry of the Interior started partially using the property as part of assistance centers for refugees from Ukraine, which has made it no longer possible to label the object as unnecessary for the state, the Ministry of Finance pointed out in the materials for today's cabinet meeting.

"The Olomouc region has also requested a gratuitous transfer of the properties. The ÚZSVM consulted this request with the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS), and based on its statement, it is necessary for the Olomouc region to augment its request," the Ministry of Finance also stated.

The Olomouc region wants to use the Hanácká barracks together with the city of Olomouc. The city hall would like to relocate some of its departments to the Hanácká barracks that do not have high visitor numbers. Up to 200 officials from the city council are to be moved to the Hanácká barracks, and some social services could also operate in them. Among the considered options is a kindergarten or a children's group. The Olomouc region aims to use the Hanácká barracks mainly for science, culture, and education, primarily through the Ethnographic Museum in Olomouc or the Archaeological Center Olomouc. A creative center, a social counseling center, a material and food aid center, a Family Point branch, and a regional volunteer center are also to be established in the Hanácká barracks.

The Hanácká barracks were used by the army for 170 years and have been empty since 2013. The building has an office area of over 2000 square meters. It was originally considered that hundreds of employees from state offices currently based in multiple locations in Olomouc would move there. However, according to the Ministry of Defense, further use for state officials would be costlier than selling and possibly constructing a new administrative headquarters. Since last spring, part of the building has been operating as a regional assistance center to help refugees from Ukraine.
