Ostrava - In the Ostrava district of Poruba, the reconstruction of the House of Culture Poklad will begin on Friday. The modernization will last 83 weeks and is expected to cost 355 million crowns. The cultural house should be opened in 2021, said deputy mayor Zuzana Bajgarová (ANO) to ČTK. This is the third time the reconstruction of the building is starting.
The renovation of the cultural house has been ongoing for several years and has been problematic from the start. Past repairs have been complicated not only by disputes with one of the former tenants of the space but also by issues related to demands for payment of costs for so-called additional work that the former contractor wanted for the renovation.
The reconstructed building was put on hold in 2014, and the city was looking for a new contractor. At that time, the contract was won by a consortium of companies Stamont - Pozemní Stavitelství and Vítkovice Revmont Engineering, which offered a price of about 180 million crowns, while the project estimated costs at around 240 million. However, two years ago, the renovation was halted again because the city management was dissatisfied with the quality of some of the works, as well as delays in construction and disputes over the costs of additional work. Thus, the city had to announce the contract again and selected a consortium of companies Zlínstav, Geosan Group, and Ridera Stavební from eight bids, which will start repairing the building on Friday.
"In September last year, we announced a public contract that was concluded last week with the signing of the contract. On Friday, we will hand over the construction site," said Bajgarová. According to her, the city wants to continuously inform the public about the progress of the construction and the fulfillment of agreed conditions. "I believe that it is under close scrutiny and it is necessary to monitor the development continuously so that we do not find ourselves in similar situations as in the past," she added.
The reconstruction includes repairs of the entire building, including the surroundings. Access roads will be repaired and replacement greenery will be planted. After modernization, there will be a theater hall for 420 people, a social hall, a small theater hall for 100 people, a fitness room, three multifunctional classrooms, and two lounges. A restaurant with a terrace and a club space or a mini-cinema for about 60 people will also be included.
