In Ostrava, they are completing the reconstruction of the Cultural House Poklad

Ostrava – In the Ostrava district of Poruba, builders are completing an extensive reconstruction of the House of Culture Poklad. The schedule has been delayed by adverse weather, which complicated work around the cultural house. However, the construction could be finished within a few weeks. This was stated today by Deputy Mayor Zuzana Bajgarová (ANO) to journalists.

"Initially, we anticipated that we would be taking over Poklad by now. We are at the end of the interior work and finalizing the interiors," Bajgarová said. The city could potentially take over the building in about two weeks. "What is slightly troubling us is the weather and the constant rain, which has long hindered our ability to work effectively on the outdoor repairs. We had a significant issue with the foundation of the staircase and compacting the area in front of the cultural house so that we could lay large-format paving. So we are slightly behind schedule, and I expect that the work will be completed by the end of June or the first week of July," the deputy mayor added.

After the reconstruction, the cultural house will include, for example, a social hall, a theater hall, a training hall, and a music club. There will also be a contact point for the municipal police, classrooms, and lounges. The reconstruction of the cultural house has been ongoing for several years and has been problematic from the start. Repairs in the past have been complicated not only by disputes with one of the former tenants of the premises but also by issues related to the demands for covering costs for so-called additional work. Thus, the problematic construction is now being completed by the third contractor in line.

The foundation stone of the cultural house on today's Matěj Kopecký Street was laid in 1958 and was ceremoniously opened three years later. At that time, it was the only cultural facility in the largest Ostrava housing estate, where 50,000 residents lived at that time. Since 2009, the building has been a cultural monument. According to previous information, the costs for its current modernization are expected to be around 400 million crowns.
