The House of Culture Poklad in Ostrava-Poruba will reopen on August 25 after nine years

Ostrava – The reconstructed House of Culture Poklad in Ostrava-Poruba will open to the public on August 25. The program will include an Open House Day and a concert by singer Marie Rottrová. Tereza Zgabajová told ČTK today on behalf of the organizers. The renovation cost approximately 400 million crowns. Work began in 2019, and the building had been closed for seven years prior.

After the reconstruction, the cultural house will include a social hall, a theater hall, a dance studio, and a music club. It will also have a contact point for the city police, classrooms, and lounges.

The reconstruction of the cultural house took several years and was problematic from the beginning. Past repairs were complicated not only by disputes with one of the former tenants of the premises but also by issues related to the demands for the payment of costs for so-called additional works. The problematic construction is now being completed by the third contractor in a row.

The foundation stone of the cultural house on the current Matěj Kopecký Street was laid in 1958, and it was ceremonially opened three years later. At that time, it was the only cultural facility in the largest Ostrava housing estate, which housed 50,000 residents. Since 2009, the building has been a cultural monument. According to earlier information, the costs for its current modernization are expected to be around 400 million crowns.
