Ostrava - In Ostrava, the reconstruction of the Poklad Cultural Center in the city's Poruba district could continue in a few weeks. The modernization is expected to cost nearly 355 million crowns, which was the lowest of the eight bids. This was stated to reporters today by Deputy Mayor Zuzana Bajgarová (ANO).

The renovation of the cultural center has been problematic from the beginning and has lasted several years. Previous repairs were complicated not only by disputes with one of the former tenants of the premises but also by issues related to the demand for compensation for so-called additional work that the former contractor wanted for the renovation. Eventually, the building had to be preserved in 2014, and the city sought a new contractor. At that time, the contract was won by the consortium of companies Stamont - Earth Construction and Vítkovice Revmont Engineering, which offered a price of around 180 million crowns, even though the project estimated costs around 240 million. However, two years ago, the renovation was halted again because the city leadership was not satisfied with the quality of some work, was troubled by delays in construction, and disputes over the valuation of additional work. Therefore, the consortium decided to terminate the contract, and construction was stopped again. Last autumn, the city announced its third public contract. Ultimately, it chose the consortium of three companies - Zlínstav, Geosan Group, and Ridera Construction.

The city expects to finalize a contract with the contractor in May and then begin the reconstruction. It will be financed through the company Akord&Poklad, which operates the facility. Therefore, city councilors decided at today's meeting to increase the subsidy for this company.

The reconstruction is expected to be completed in 2021. The builders will modernize the entire cultural house, including its surroundings. The plan includes the repair of access roads and replanting. The reconstruction does not include interiors or parking facilities, which will be announced as a separate contract.

After the renovation, the cultural house will have a theater hall for 420 people, a social hall, a small theater hall for 100 people, a fitness room, three multifunctional classrooms, and two lounges. It will also include a restaurant with a terrace and club space, as well as a mini-cinema for approximately 60 people.
