In Nová Zbrojovka in Brno, a primary and nursery school will be built for more than 600 million

Brno - A primary and kindergarten school for up to 860 children will be built in the area of Nová Zbrojovka in Brno, which will also include a gymnasium. Construction is expected to begin around 2025. The winning project was created by the firm SOA architekti. The construction will cost around 600 to 700 million crowns, said the first Deputy Mayor René Černý (ANO) to journalists today. The location is set to yield 2500 apartments for approximately 6000 people.

The city appreciates that a school and kindergarten will be built before the apartments. "The kindergarten will offer future residents of the new district two classes for a maximum of 25 children, and the accessible primary school is designed to have a capacity of up to 810 children with 15 classrooms for the first grade and 12 flexible classrooms for the second grade," stated Mayor of the Židenice district Petr Kunc (Voice for Židenice). The district should then be responsible for the schools.

The ground floor of the primary school will be completely openable. "The school, along with the garden and sports area, will thus connect with the lives of the residents of the new district. Similarly, the entire complex of studios, clubrooms, and rooftop terraces on the fourth floor will be independently connected from the main street and can be used for extracurricular activities and interest activities completely independently of the school's operation," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

The winning project includes three new buildings. In addition to the primary and kindergarten school and gymnasium, an administrative building is planned, which will house the private primary school and gymnasium PORG. "The administrative building serves as a landmark at the entrance to Nová Zbrojovka and also allows for the future relocation of the town hall of the Brno-Židenice district. It is a good example of a city of short distances," clarified councilor Filip Chvátal (KDU-ČSL).

The construction of all buildings will cost between 600 and 700 million, according to Černý, this price range includes possible inflation developments. Construction is expected to start in 2025. "Many factors depend on the timing of the construction works; we expect that work could begin in 2025 and that it will be completed by 2027 at the latest," said project manager Jan Růžička from Nová Zbrojovka to ČTK.

Nová Zbrojovka is an emerging district in Židenice, covering an area of 22 hectares. The regeneration of the former Zbrojovka factory area is expected to last until around 2033. The project includes 2500 apartments and 300,000 square meters of office and commercial space. Demolition work in the area began in 2017.
