Ústí nad Orlicí - Ústí nad Orlicí received 24 proposals in an architectural-urban competition for the future use of the former textile factory Perla, which belongs to the city. Two of them did not meet the required criteria and were disqualified. Mayor Petr Hájek (Association Oušťáci) is satisfied with the course of the competition, he told ČTK today. "The expert jury evaluated that the competition had an above-average level. A lot of proposals were submitted, they are generally of high quality, and there is plenty to choose from," said Hájek. The results of the anonymous one-round competition will be known in about a week. Starting from April 15, the city hall plans a public presentation of all submitted proposals in the Cultural House. Ústí will discuss a contract for the development of a zoning plan or documentation for a zoning decision with the top three proposal authors. The city has set basic conditions that the proposals had to respect. It required that the authors consider a new children's and youth center, housing, transportation, and parking spaces for the city center, and public greenery must not be missing. The rest depends on the creators' ingenuity; the only limiting factor is the zoning plan, which provides for areas for housing and light industry. A similar competition has not been held in Ústí so far. The city budget is 1.1 million crowns. The winner of the competition will receive 400,000 crowns, the second place will receive 250,000, and the third will receive 150,000 crowns. Additional funds will be used for rewards for contributions in the competition and to cover the organization of the competition. The Perla 01 area covers almost 32,000 square meters, of which the built-up area represents over 27,000 square meters. The former textile factory was purchased by the city in 2010 for 30 million crowns. The factory went bankrupt a year prior, having previously employed 400 workers. The city hall plans to sell part of the land and buildings to developers.
