Brno - The Constitutional Court will today announce its decision regarding the complaint of the municipality of Nové Heřminovy in the Bruntál region, which has been fighting for years against the construction of a dam. The waterworks would flood part of the municipality. According to Nové Heřminovy, the construction is environmentally unfriendly, unnecessarily costly, and flood protection can be ensured in other ways. A referendum was held in the municipality in 2008, where a majority of residents expressed their opposition to the dam.
The constitutional complaint, which has been awaiting a decision since 2015, specifically follows the municipality's effort to revoke part of the developmental principles of the Moravian-Silesian Region defining the dam and related constructions. The municipality was unsuccessful in its proposal at both the Regional Court in Ostrava and the Supreme Administrative Court.
The Constitutional Court will also announce a ruling on the issue of enforcing unpaid child support through the suspension of a driving license. Specifically, it concerns whether the suspension of a driver's license should last even after the children celebrate their 18th birthday.
Another ruling will relate to the possibility of assisted reproduction under specific circumstances. A widow sought to undergo in vitro fertilization using the woman's oocyte and cryopreserved sperm from her deceased husband. The man consented to this while he was still alive. According to the clinic, in vitro fertilization can only be performed on couples.
