Uherské Hradiště - The Town Hall in Uherské Hradiště is preparing an exhibition of proposals concerning the planned transformation of the Morava River waterfront near the city center. In the architectural-urban planning competition announced by the town hall in January, two dozen proposals were submitted. The opening reception is scheduled for Thursday at 4:00 PM at the former Jesuit College on Masaryk Square, said Mayor Stanislav Blaha (ODS) to ČTK.

"I am very pleased that we managed to attract architects from all over the Czech Republic. The competition jury was mostly composed of experts. The result of the competition is not only the ranking of the top three proposals but also a detailed manual on how to further work with those proposals," stated the mayor.

According to him, inspiration can be found in most proposals. "According to the competition rules, we are supposed to continue collaborating with the author of the winning proposal. But of course, the degree and intensity of cooperation can vary. The city will further decide how to work with those proposals," the mayor stated.

The winning proposal comes from the Cheb-based studio A69 - architects, with the next two places filled by the company ARCHUM architects from Prague and architect Markéta Zdebská, also from the capital city. Three other proposals received special awards.

The planned transformation of the neglected waterfront aims to revitalize it and increase its attractiveness for both locals and visitors to the city. It should primarily serve people for leisure activities. The modifications are to concern approximately a one-kilometer stretch of the waterfront from the Moravian River Authority buildings on Moravní Square to the police station on Velehradská Street. "Historically, we have somewhat neglected the river, and we want to remedy that," said Blaha.

According to the city’s vision, new furniture, children's play elements, exercise machines, artworks, and better access to the water should appear on the waterfront. Preliminary plans also include the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the Morava and partial modifications to the right bank in the local district of Rybárny.

The timeline for the work and expected costs cannot currently be estimated by the mayor. The costs could be in the tens to hundreds of millions of crowns. The city intends to modify the waterfront in stages and aims to obtain European subsidies. The town hall has been considering modifications to the waterfront since the 1990s. However, preparations were long halted by floods in 1997. The city then waited another 12 years for the construction of flood protection measures.

The exhibition will run until September 6.
