Revitalization of the Morava River Waterfront - Competition Announcement
The city of Uherské Hradiště announces a conceptual competition.
The city of Uherské Hradiště announces an ideational combined (urban architectural-landscape) competition "Revitalization of the Morava River Embankment" and issues these competition conditions.
The subject of the competition is to find the most suitable urban-creating concept for the design of the Morava River embankment space for the purpose of its revitalization. It concerns a strip on the left and partially on the right bank of the river, approximately 1000 m long.
The city has long turned its back to the river. The urban and respiratory potential of the Morava River embankment, even in the section that closely adjoins the central zone - to the urban heritage zone and its protective zone, is not utilized. So far, it has not even been possible to suitably integrate the landscape into the urban structure of the city.
The current state of the embankment does not invite recreation, sports, or active leisure; it is mostly of poor quality and serves more as a transit pedestrian and cycling path. The space is fenced off from the adjoining urban spaces, areas, and buildings by impenetrable fences and walls, and any functional and spatial interaction with the adjacent impenetrable areas does not occur, even in the case of the rowing club, the Koruna restaurant, the Sokol area, or the gymnasium. The space is not sufficiently equipped with urban furniture (benches, trash bins, bike racks, public lighting), any places to stop and rest, play elements for children, exercise equipment for adults and seniors, or any other attractive or artistic elements. Access to the dam and the berm practically does not exist and is not addressed, and the informational system is completely absent. Only a few descents from the dam down to the level of the berm serve exclusively the river flow manager for maintaining the riverbed, cleaning, and mowing grass.
The city expects a strong and viable idea that will serve as a convincing starting impulse for the conceptual transformation and revitalization of the neglected embankment, which will become a dignified and organic part of the urban center environment and the heritage zone.
The final submission date for the competition proposals is set for 5:00 PM on May 2, 2018.
