Prague – The completion date for this year's repairs of the Barrandov Bridge between Prague 4 and 5 is still unclear. Negotiations about it are ongoing. At the same time, it is being discussed whether and what sanctions the city will begin to impose on the construction company. Adam Scheinherr (Prague Sobě), the Deputy Mayor, stated this in response to a query from ČTK today. The original completion date was set for September 29, but the construction company Porr requested a postponement to October 22, which has been criticized by the city leadership and the Technical Administration of Communications since the beginning.
The reconstruction began on May 16 of this year. Initially, the work was supposed to be completed by September 2. Due to mandatory adjustments to the project, the completion of repairs was postponed by 27 days to September 29, and now it is the second postponement of the deadline. The construction company announced at the end of September that the work would last until October 22. It is still unclear whether the work will finish by this date or possibly earlier.
The project manager, a consortium of companies led by IDS, Contract Management, and VIS, proposed October 10 as the completion date during negotiations. However, this date was never officially confirmed, as it was not approved, and thus remained only a proposal from the manager.
It has not yet been decided whether the city, through TSK, will impose a contractual penalty on the builder for the delay. Its amount is not clear, nor is it known from when and at what rate it would be applied.
The Barrandov Bridge, built in 1983, is part of the city ring road and has never been repaired. It is used by over 140,000 cars daily, making it the busiest route in Prague. The reconstruction of the structure is spread over several years and will last only part of each year. The total cost of the work over the entire period is estimated at 594.5 million crowns.
