Prague - All traffic restrictions on the Barrandov Bridge in Prague will end on Thursday night. This was announced today on the X network (formerly Twitter) by the city company Technical Administration of Communications of the Capital City of Prague (TSK). Restrictions will also be lifted on the approaches to the bridge. This year's part of the repairs, which led to traffic restrictions on the bridge, started on May 15. The reconstruction of the bridge is spread over several years. In 2021, the lower part of the bridge was repaired, during which time traffic did not need to be restricted. Last year, work began on the upper part, and the final stage of repairs is expected to finish by 2025 according to plans.
"All work restricting traffic on the Barrandov Bridge, including restrictions in its forelands, will end tonight," TSK announced. "In the last hours, road workers will only ensure the removal of portable traffic signs and the transfer of the traffic lane, which will eliminate the crossing to the northern part of the bridge," the road workers added.
This year's repairs included, along with work on the ramp from K Barrandovu Street, the repair of the left half of the southern bridge in the direction from Smíchov to Braník. The work included surface adjustments at the connection of the K Barrandovu Street to the bridge, construction adjustments where the exit to Modřanská Street diverges from the bridge, and connection to the foreland of the bridge. Drivers were able to return to the bridge at the beginning of September after a load test, but traffic was still partially restricted due to finishing work.
The Barrandov Bridge, built in 1983, is part of the city ring road and had never been repaired before the current reconstruction began. More than 140,000 cars cross it daily, making it the busiest road in Prague. The reconstruction of the structure is spread over several years, with work only taking place for part of the year. The total cost of the work over the entire period will be 594.5 million crowns.
