Šumperk - The Šumperk Town Hall must once again search for a city architect who will take care of the city's development design. At the beginning of November, the city announced that starting in January, the winner of the selection process should assume this position. However, the local architect Štěpán Tomas decided not to take office. This was informed today by the spokesperson of the Šumperk Town Hall, Soňa Singerová.

The thirty-seven-year-old architect Tomas won the selection process, which involved seven candidates. He was supposed to start in January, but he did not sign a contract with the city. "Therefore, the second in line was approached, but he also decided not to accept the position due to work commitments. The architect who placed third expressed the same opinion. For this reason, the city leadership decided that a new selection process would be announced," stated the spokesperson of the town hall.

According to representatives of the town hall, the architect should be a guarantor and initiator of the city's development concept. The main focus of his work will be oversight of Šumperk's appearance and providing consulting and advisory services in architecture and urbanism. The city architect should, according to Mayor Tomáš Spurný, also ensure consultations for the city residents, property owners, investors, and developers, guiding their intentions to be in line with urban-architectural development and city concepts. The city previously stated that he should participate, for example, in the preparation of the reconstruction of the cultural center or in the concept of the Main Street, which is overcrowded with advertisements.

For example, the neighboring town of Jeseník has its own city architect. Since September of the year before last, he has been available for consultations every Wednesday in the meeting room of the town hall on Tovární Street, said Richard Kapustka, spokesperson for the Jeseník Town Hall.
