Brno - The Brno city council can still use the project documentation by Omnia for the repair of the Tugendhat villa, which won in an illegal selection process. The Brno city court did not approve the request from a competing group of architects led by Jan Sapák, who sought a preliminary injunction to suspend the fulfillment of the contract. This was confirmed today by court spokeswoman Soňa Vyplašilová. Sapák has already appealed the court's decision, and ČTK was unable to reach him today. The Tugendhat villa, which is on the UNESCO heritage list, has been waiting for repairs for several years. The original deadline has already been postponed several times. According to the latest information, it is unlikely that repairs will begin in the coming months. The architects around Sapák, who were second in the tender for the project documentation for the repair, have been trying for some time to have the court annul the contract with the group led by Omnia and for the city council to cancel the tender. Neither of these has succeeded so far. Meanwhile, the antimonopoly office recently ruled that there were errors in the competition and ordered the city to select a winner again. The city will decide on a course of action next week, Deputy Mayor Ladislav Macek told ČTK today, adding that a more likely option is to announce a new competition. This would mean that Omnia has another chance. If the city were to choose a winner solely based on the original tender, it would most likely have to exclude Omnia for failing to meet the requirements. The architects' project should outline the amount needed for the repair of the UNESCO monument. Omnia spoke of 200 million CZK. Architects Ludvík Grym, Jan Sapák, and Jindřich Škrabal claim, however, that the repairs could be arranged cheaper. Omnia has already completed its original project and has been paid for it. It cost the city more than eight million CZK. Since 1994, the villa has belonged to the city of Brno and has been waiting for a general overhaul for several years. The reconstruction is expected to involve almost everything, including the statically damaged foundations. The project cost the city nine million CZK. However, it is important to know what price each team of designers calculated for the reconstruction.
