Brno - The company that will ensure the heritage restoration of the functionalist Tugendhat Villa will not be selected by the Brno city hall, but by a professional company. This was decided by the city councilors. They want the professional company not only to select the contractor but also to provide all legal services. The city hall thus wants to ensure a completely flawless course of the competition and its compliance with the law, said the mayor's deputy Ladislav Macek (ČSSD) to reporters today. According to Macek, a significant interest from companies and professionals in the repair of the villa can be expected. "Everyone has and can have their opinion, which may not align with the bidding conditions, and may feel that we are not proceeding correctly," said the deputy. The expert company that will select the contractor is intended to prevent any problems and delays for this reason. According to Macek’s statement, the councilors have already chosen a company to ensure the competition preliminarily. They are now finalizing the contract terms. The city councilors should approve them next week. The city hall wants to go the route of external contractor selection also because it cannot afford to delay the repair of the Tugendhat Villa. According to Macek, regional heritage experts are considering instructing the city to carry out immediate repairs on certain parts of the villa. This includes a list of specific craftsmanship interventions, including roof repair. According to the deputy, such a decision by the heritage experts would complicate the situation for the city. Brno would then likely have to urgently start looking for a contractor for each individual work named by the heritage experts, which would complicate the restoration of the building as a whole, as currently proposed.
