Prague - The Prague councilors have selected the winner of the tender for the renovation of Šlechtova Restaurant in Stromovka. The winning company is Pracom, with a bid price of 101 million crowns without VAT. The council approved the company today for the second time, as two participants in the competition appealed against the first selection. The city could hand over the construction site to Pracom at the beginning of June.
The estimated price for the contract was set by the city at 169 million. Ten applicants participated in the competition. Šlechtova Restaurant has long been deteriorating, and the city has postponed its renovation several times in the past.
"After the selection committee convened, it chose the winner, which is again Pracom. The council approved the selection with a unanimous vote. The objections from the appellants were directed at the contract with subcontractors. The committee asked Pracom to supplement the contracts. It was not a serious oversight; it was a simple addition," said councilor Jan Wolf (KDU-ČSL/Trojkoalice).
According to Wolf, a fifteen-day period will now begin, during which any of the participants can appeal against the result. "I hope that this will not happen and that the renovation of Šlechtova Restaurant will start," said Wolf. If none of the companies appeal, the city will hand over the restaurant and the construction site to Pracom. The work is expected to last about 16 months. After the renovations are completed, the city will announce a tender for an operator.
The building will undergo a complete reconstruction. Inside, historical elements will be restored, including the ceiling fresco of Apollo with Venus or the artificial dripstone cave, where the statue of Poseidon used to be.
The renovation of the monument was originally estimated to cost a quarter of a billion crowns. However, the original costly project was tasked to be simplified by the architect. Thus, there will be fewer stairs, elevators, and restrooms.
Šlechtova Restaurant, formerly known as Královská dvorana, is a cultural monument. It is named after its last owner Václav Šlecht. Its oldest part dates from the late 17th century, and the building was completed in the mid-19th century.
