Prague - Prague conservationists have ordered the Prague 7 council to ensure the stability and basic repairs of the dilapidated Šlechtova restaurant in Stromovka. This was revealed to ČTK from the decision of the conservationists, which is available. The city has been promising a comprehensive renovation of the deteriorating heritage building for several years, but so far, it has only remained a promise.

The conservationists have long described the state of the building as hopeless. The original expensive project, which counted on an investment of a quarter of a billion crowns, was rejected by the current city leadership, deeming it overpriced. The renovation has thus been postponed again, and the monument continues to deteriorate.
"The restaurant was entrusted to the ownership of the city district many years ago, which, however, has never done anything to improve the condition of the building," said Deputy Mayor Václav Novotný (TOP 09) in response to ČTK's inquiry. According to him, the council cannot evade responsibility and should take care of the preservation of the heritage site.
However, the district leadership disagrees and has appealed against the decision of the conservationists. They claim that the city hall should take care of it. "The loan agreement is still in effect, under which Prague committed to take care of the monument during the construction of the Blanka tunnel complex," claims spokesperson Martin Vokuš.
The Šlechtova restaurant building, previously known as Královská dvorana, is a cultural monument. It is named after the last owner, Václav Šlecht. Its oldest part dates back to the late 17th century, although the structure was completed in the mid-19th century. In 1978 and two years later, the building caught fire, and it has been deteriorating ever since. It was also damaged by the flood in 2002.
