Třeboň - Třeboň will postpone the reconstruction of Bertin's Baths by one year, costing approximately 170 million crowns. The reason is that no bidders applied for the competition for this project. The reconstruction, which includes the renovation of the kitchen and modernization of the rooms, was supposed to start in September and finish in May next year. Jitka Bednářová, spokesperson for the Třeboň spa, said this today to CTK.
"We don't know exactly what caused the lack of interest from companies in the reconstruction. But there are probably two reasons. The first is the price and the second is the time frame during which the project must be completed," said the spokesperson. The city, which owns the spa, approved the budget for the reconstruction last autumn. However, since the beginning of this year, the prices of construction work have risen significantly, and the amount of 170 million crowns may no longer reflect reality. According to Bednářová, some bidders might have also been deterred by the seven-month duration of the reconstruction.
"If we manage to select a contractor, which we firmly believe we will, the reconstruction will take place from September 2019 to May 2020," stated Třeboň’s mayor Terezie Jenisová (KDU-ČSL). Thus, the deadline for the work would be extended by one month.
Bertin's Baths would be completely closed during the renovation. The facility is part of the Slatinné Spa Třeboň, which also includes the Aurora Spa. Last year, nearly 33,000 clients visited both facilities. This is almost 1,000 more than the previous year.
The fame of the spa lies in the use of peat from fens, with the Třeboň basin being one of the richest deposits in the Czech Republic. The dried peat is first crushed, then mixed with water, and subsequently heated to a temperature of 38 to 39 degrees Celsius. The mixture is then transported to special baths, where its temperature is adjusted according to the instructions of the doctors.
