Třeboň – The modernization of Bertin's baths is halfway complete, with the city of Třeboň investing 250 million crowns. The work has fallen behind schedule by 14 days due to difficulties with kitchen repairs, and the additional costs will be three million Kč. Rooms are expected to be finished by the end of April, while the kitchen and dining room will be ready in May. After the reconstruction, Bertin's baths will increase the prices of treatment stays, particularly the accommodation prices, by tens of percent. This was said today by the mayor of Třeboň, Jan Váňa (ODS), who is also one of the managing directors of Slatinné baths.
The company Slatinné baths, owned by the city, includes Bertin's baths and Aurora baths. It employs 480 people, with an accommodation capacity of over 750 beds. The construction part of the work in Bertin's baths will cost approximately 175 million crowns, with the remaining costs going towards equipment, including the interiors of 87 rooms.
The renovation of the kitchen, dining room, and rooms began in September 2019. "We encountered a quite significant problem. It was planned to strengthen the pillars and install the kitchen. Unfortunately, the structural engineer found that the pillars did not have sufficient load-bearing capacity, so we had to remove the pillars, demolish that section, and build anew," said Váňa. Bertin's baths have scheduled their first clients from May 18.
Once the modernization is complete, Bertin's baths will increase the prices of treatment stays. Accommodation prices will rise by tens of percent. According to Váňa, the rooms will be comparable to the standard of Aurora baths. "This means that the prices will also adjust accordingly. Initially, it will likely be more challenging for clients from Bertin's baths who were used to lower prices, but I believe that once they arrive and see the comfort, they will be satisfied," said Váňa.
In Aurora baths, the city council plans to build an outdoor wellness area for 100 million crowns within four years. Construction could start at the end of this year. "We are currently in the zoning decision phase, we have completed studies, and all positive statements are in place. We would like to complete the construction procedure this year," Váňa stated.
The wellness area will feature five pools. The city has allocated 60 million Kč for this investment in this year's budget, with the remainder to be invested next year. They will not utilize subsidies. "The essential point is that we will offer higher quality for self-payers, as, due to the policies of previous years, the number of self-payers has decreased by about three percent two years ago and last year. I would like to stop that trend," Váňa explained.
In 2018, Slatinné baths Třeboň had 32,732 clients. Revenues were 576 million crowns, with a profit after tax of 26.7 million. According to the mayor, the baths will end last year in profit. According to statisticians, 71,688 people were accommodated in Třeboň's mass accommodation facilities in 2018 for 422,393 nights.
The basic therapeutic procedures in Třeboň combine mud baths and wraps with manual massages. The Třeboň basin is among the richest Czech deposits of peat and mud, with mud containing minerals such as pyrite and marcasite being extracted there. The tradition of modern spa treatments dates back to 1883 when the first spa house was built and operated by Třeboň teacher Václav Hucek near the Golden Canal.
