Liberec – The reconstruction of the seven-story administrative building Uran in Liberec will cost about 84 million crowns, and the city will apply for a grant from the European program. The facade needs to be renovated primarily, and the work is expected to take place next year. This was stated today by Mayor Jaroslav Zámečník (Mayors for the Liberec Region).

Uran, built in 1969 on May 1st Avenue, was transferred to the city free of charge from the state in 2005. Currently, about 150 employees work in the extensive facility, which houses the municipal police, the social care department, and the vehicle registration office. Besides the ground floor renovation in 2009, Uran has not undergone any significant repairs in the past. The outer shell is particularly dangerous to its surroundings. There is protective scaffolding around the building to prevent anything from falling from the facade onto the sidewalk leading to the train station.

The new facade will be made of galvanized sheet metal, replacing the current brittle panels. There will also be work on ventilation, electrical installations, and central heating. According to the mayor, the project is in the final stages of documentation, and preparations will begin for bidding to find a company to carry out the repairs. Before starting work, he mentioned that several issues still need to be resolved. "We assigned the task to start the process of relocating the server room. Uran houses one of the two server rooms, which means the memory center for the entire city hall, so we want to move it to a quieter place to protect the city hall's network," the mayor stated. He also mentioned that the control center of the municipal police's camera system and the entire social care department, which has about 50 employees, will temporarily need to relocate. According to the mayor, there are no other spaces available for these workers, and suitable offices will likely be sought through a public tender. The officers are expected to remain in Uran during the repairs, except for the operations center, while a decision has not yet been made regarding the vehicle registration office staff.

The partial reconstruction of Uran is expected to be completed within one year. The designer anticipates that the work, divided into four phases, should be completed in 37 weeks. "Work would start from the back near the bus station," said the mayor. According to him, the city architect's office will also assess later this year whether a support facility for the bus station, located right next to Uran, could be established on the first floor of Uran. The current facilities are in construction containers, which are a disgrace to the city.
