Liberec – Liberec will temporarily relocate its officials from the Uran building, which is set for a reconstruction costing approximately 84 million crowns, to the shopping center Forum or the nearby S Tower, which was previously used by the employment office. None of the other offers met the city's requirements. This was announced today by the city's spokesperson Jana Kodymová in a press release.
Liberec needs at least 1000 m² of office space for the Department of Social Services with nearly 60 employees and an additional 650 m² for the vehicle registration office. They aim to relocate these offices in the coming months, and according to Kodymová, the renovation of the Uran building should begin in the fall.
Only two offers met the city's conditions for renting office space and facilities. Both buildings are located in the lower center of the hundred-thousand-strong city, and the decision will be made by the city councilors. "Both offers are comparable in many parameters. Therefore, the city councilors decided that they want to personally visit both locations before the actual vote to assess how suitable the offered spaces are for the mentioned agendas of the magistrate," said the secretary of the magistrate Martin Čech.
With the company that succeeds, the city will likely sign a contract for five years with an option for another five years, according to Kodymová. "Other variants of the rental duration cannot be ruled out," she added. The reconstruction of the Uran building should only take one year. "If everything goes smoothly, we expect the completion of the building's renovation in the fall of 2022,” said the mayor of Liberec Jaroslav Zámečník (Mayors for the Liberec Region). The city will apply for a grant from the European program for the renovation of the seven-story Uran building. The facade, which poses a danger to its surroundings, is primarily in need of renewal. Protective scaffolding surrounds the building to prevent anything from falling onto the sidewalk that leads to the train station.
