Moravská Třebová - The town hall in Moravská Třebová in the Svitavy region wants to build a new cultural and community center in phases. Building it as a whole would be too expensive, said Mayor Pavel Charvát (ODS) to ČTK. The center will be created from the former Miltra dairy in Jirásková Street, which the town purchased. In an architectural competition, the winning design was chosen from the architectural office Rusina Frei Architekt, and the study will be finalized by the end of the year.
According to the mayor, the first phase will involve building a cultural hall. "We also require that everything can be realized in phases so that additional elements can be modularly added later. By the end of the year, we will have the final study, and we will decide whether to develop it into further stages of project documentation," Charvát stated.
The winning proposal for the cultural center includes the construction of a community hall with seating for 250 to 500 people, a cinema with 80 seats, a new municipal community library, facilities for a museum repository, a bar, a café, and additional spaces for social life. An uncovered area will feature a municipal garden, and the restored chimney will serve as a rainwater reservoir. The project also includes the construction of necessary parking spaces.
Diversity and multifunctionality of the offered spaces and services are particularly important for Moravská Třebová. To ensure that the place is active throughout the day, it was decided to combine the community hall, cinema, library, and café. The library is expected to enliven the entire space and create connections with the nearby grammar school and senior home. The center will be located next to the municipal museum, which lacks suitable spaces for storing its collections.
Earlier, costs were estimated at 300 to 350 million crowns. This year, the representatives approved a budget with expenditures of about 320 million crowns. "I still believe that for around 150 million crowns, we can establish the basis of the cultural center here, namely the hall with facilities," Charvát said.
The area of one hectare in Jirásková Street, which the town acquired for 11 million crowns in 2020, is close to the center and adjacent to the park next to the municipal museum. The factory hall and the former powerhouse will be preserved, as well as the character of the original gabled roofs.
