Architects will transform a brownfield in Moravská Třebová into a cultural center

Moravská Třebová – Moravská Třebová in the Svitavy region has announced a design competition for a new version of the former Miltra dairy facility. It will house a cultural center. The city will present the designs this autumn, the town hall stated in a press release.

The city has owned the complex since 2011, having purchased it for 11 million crowns. It will feature a community hall for 250 to 500 people, a smaller cinema for 80 viewers, a city community library, a museum deposit, a bar, a café, and spaces for associations.

"The combination of different sizes and types of halls will allow us to use the cultural center for both large community events as well as for the intimate activities of various associations or private celebrations," said Marie Blažková, director of municipal cultural services.

The center is to be open all day, not just in the evening. "That is why we decided to combine the community hall, cinema, library, and café. The library would help to enliven the entire space and create connections with the nearby gymnasium and senior home," Blažková stated.

Six architectural teams will participate in the narrowed competition, and the winning solution will be selected by an expert jury in September. The city plans a public presentation of the designs in the autumn. "The outcome of the competition will serve as a basis for developing the subsequent stages of the project documentation, and we will also be prepared to apply for grants related to the support of cultural and creative centers," said mayor Miloš Mička (Change for Třebová).

The facility is located on Jirásková Street. It is near the city center and adjacent to the park by the city museum. The city estimates costs at 260 million crowns. Most of the original halls will need to be demolished since they are in poor condition. However, architects will consider whether it is possible to renovate the main building, which has a gable roof.
