Prostějov - This year, Prostějov, with the help of European subsidies, will invest approximately 61 million crowns into the renovation of the National House, which was opened in 1907 and is a significant Art Nouveau monument. The council has already announced a tender for the renovation, informed Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Fišer (CSSD) to ČTK.
"This involves the repair of facades, designated interior spaces in the basement, second and third floors, and the restoration and revitalization of the garden restaurant," said Fišer. According to him, construction work should start by early April and be completed by the end of October.
The total estimated cost of this public contract for the renovation of the National House is nearly 61 million crowns, with up to 90 percent of the costs expected to be covered by grants from the Integrated Regional Operational Program, according to Fišer.
The city began a series of renovations of the National House after 1989. Over the past 20 years, the gradual reconstruction of the stage technology and interior has cost approximately 90 million. Most recently, the roof was repaired last year.
The National House in Prostějov is a unique Art Nouveau monument of European significance. It is one of the city's landmarks. It was built between 1905 and 1907 according to the design of the leading figure of Czech Art Nouveau, Jan Kotěra. Its purpose was to create a cultural and social center for the city with a pub, theater, and spaces for associations. The form of the building was significantly altered by modifications during the Second World War, which largely erased the distinctive features of Kotěra's work.
