Prague - The Prague City Hall has canceled the tender for the supervision of the construction of the long-planned new footbridge over the Berounka River in Radotín. The decision was made by the councilors. The main tender for the contractor has been under review by the antitrust office for some time, halting the project's preparation. Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Praha Sobě) told reporters today that the City Hall has urged the office several times. The current footbridge is in poor condition, and the new construction was originally supposed to be completed by now.
Scheinherr stated that only one applicant had applied for the construction supervision tender, which subsequently failed to provide the supplementary materials. According to him, the city will announce a new competition. However, the main tender for the contractor has been stagnant for at least a year, due to a complaint from one of the companies claiming that the tender conditions favored a specific company. The tender assignment was approved by Prague city councilors in mid-2018. The estimated costs are 61.9 million crowns.
Preparation for the new footbridge has been underway since 2014. It is expected to be 170 meters long and will lead in a different direction than the existing one - it will connect to K Radotínu Street on the right bank and to Nad Berounkou Street on the left bank. The existing footbridge, built in 1994, had to be reinforced twice due to its poor condition, in 2014 and 2017. According to the static assessment, it must be replaced with a new structure by the end of this year.
Prague has long-term problems with the condition of its bridges and footbridges. In December two years ago, a footbridge collapsed between Císařský Island and Troja, injuring four people in the incident. The city began construction of a new one. There are also plans for a footbridge from Holešovice to Karlín across Štvanice Island. In addition, the city is preparing repairs for several bridges due to the poor condition of the structures.
