Prague - If there is no investment in the transformation of the banks of the Džbán reservoir near the Prague reserve Divoká Šárka, the popular recreational area may soon be closed. It is in a state of emergency. This is claimed by Pavel Nerad from the Molepo company. The company, which owns the land around Džbán, wants to build residential buildings on the banks. However, Prague 6 disagrees with the intention.
"The goal is to carry out a revitalization of the entire area, which will respect or possibly expand the existing recreational function of the surroundings of the water reservoir," said Nerad. The company claims it wants to preserve the character of the place. "Any construction will respect a sufficiently large distance from the water surface, the preservation of greenery, and the free movement of residents around Džbán," it states. The company recently purchased the land from the state company Pražská kanalizace a vodní toky, which is in liquidation. In the past, Prague allegedly unsuccessfully sought to obtain them.
Construction is expected to take place on the bank currently serving as a swimming area. The owners want to renovate the dilapidated buildings and create space for housing. Instead of the current parking lot near the campsite, high-rise buildings with views of Prague and the valley of Divoká Šárka should be constructed. More houses are planned to be built on the bank under Evropská street.
The mayor of Prague 6, Marie Kousalíková, refuses the project. "They showed us something that cannot be there. They want to build family or terraced houses in this area, and that is really not possible in Šárka," she recently told ČTK. The same opinion is held by the environmental commission. According to one of its members, it passed a resolution on Tuesday asking the council to approach the magistrate to review the sale of the land. According to the commission, Prague should try to acquire the land either by purchase or exchange.
Despite this, the representative of the owner hopes that an agreement can be reached with the municipality. "I believe that we will find a mutually interesting solution with the representatives of the city district that will ensure the future of Džbán," adds Nerad. The company is likely to request a change to the zoning plan that would allow construction. Currently, construction is not permitted in the area according to the valid zoning plan.
