Písek - The new swimming pool in Písek is to be located in the area below the forestry school, outside the city center. This was decided by the city councilors at today's meeting. They did not comply with the wishes of the residents, who had previously expressed in a survey that they would prefer the pool to be located in the premises of the former Žižka barracks. However, the survey was not binding. The city councilors selected the location with the narrowest possible majority, with 14 out of 27 present voting for the area below the forestry school. Roman Ondřich, the spokesman for the town hall, informed ČTK of the council's decision. The councilors had three options to choose from. In addition to the Žižka barracks and the area below the forestry school, the Jih III location was also considered. The preliminary costs for building the pool are approximately 200 million crowns. The construction was originally supposed to start last year, but residents decided in a binding referendum in January 2013 that they did not want the pool in the originally selected location by the town hall. This location was very close to the historic center, and according to most respondents in the referendum, it was not suitable for such a facility. Meanwhile, the current indoor swimming complex, which is about 30 years old, remains in operation in Písek.
