Pardubice – The Pardubice region is likely to receive a higher European grant for the reconstruction of part of the automatic mills in Pardubice. The East Bohemian Gallery will have new facilities there. The regional office was originally set to receive 111 million crowns, and can additionally receive 17 to 70 million. Roman Línek (Coalition for Pardubice Region), the deputy governor, told ČTK.

"One of the projects was not utilized in the program, so the funds will be allocated to other applicants; we are in line with a pretty good project. At a minimum, we can receive 17 million crowns, and at a maximum, 70 million crowns additionally. How much it will be, we will find out soon," Línek said.

The investment will cost the region 373 million crowns, with an additional 13 million crowns coming from national sources. The regional office is reconstructing part of the automatic mills, which were purchased from the Smetana couple. The mills were designed by architect Josef Gočár and are a national technical monument. The construction phase will last until April 2022. Afterwards, the gallery will move, which will likely take until Christmas.

The East Bohemian Gallery was established in 1953 and has been an organization of the Pardubice region since 2001. It is located in the House at Jonah and has exhibition spaces at the castle as well. In the mills, it will acquire a large representative building. In another part of the former mill complex, Pardubice is building polytechnic workshops and a gallery.
