Pardubice - Pardubice supported the project for the construction of polytechnic workshops, which will serve schools and the public. The city council approved it at today's meeting. The future science and technology center in Pardubice can be compared to the science center in Liberec, said Jan Mazuch (ODS), the deputy mayor, to ČTK.

"Schools already have new modern technical and science classrooms, but it is beyond their capacity to have above-standard equipment. The polytechnic workshops will also be for families with children, something like iQLANDIA in Liberec," said Mazuch.

The city hall will build the polytechnic workshops on the site of former flour warehouses in the area of the Automatic Mills, which will also provide facilities for the Gallery of the City of Pardubice. The main building of the regional authority will be renovated into a large regional gallery. There are also plans from a private investor who only bought part of the area from the local authorities.

"All these investments will significantly influence the architectural appearance of the city for many years. The central workshops should attract young people to technology, and they should help with that," said Mazuch.

In the area of the mills, investors are preparing four European projects worth 620 million crowns, all scheduled to be completed by 2022. Among them is also the transformation of the courtyard in the area and the museum of Josef Gočár in the silo, with the projects being prepared by the Smetana couple.

Today, the council supported expenses of 57.6 million crowns for equipping the polytechnic workshops and the city gallery. The city will need this in 2021. The city purchased the building and adjacent land from the owners for 15.5 million crowns. The costs for the construction of the polytechnic workshops are estimated at 125 million crowns including VAT.
