Prague - Prague will cancel the quarter-billion crown tender for the renovation of Šlechtova Restaurant in Stromovka. The city council is expected to make a decision on this by August. According to councilor Václav Novotný (TOP 09), the project is oversized, and Prague does not have the funds for it. As a result, the renovation of the dilapidated monument will be postponed again for several years. Novotný stated this in an interview with ČTK today. According to conservationists, the condition of Šlechtova Restaurant has been long-term unsatisfactory.
The capital city of Prague, which owns the monument, has been planning the renovation of the restaurant for several years. Talks about it resumed last summer after a slope nearby the monument collapsed. However, the building itself was not damaged.
"In the current financial condition, the city should think rationally about its projects," said Novotný. The project for the reconstruction of Šlechtova Restaurant is overblown. According to him, the renovation should cost half as much in the future. Similarly, Prague has recently canceled other overpriced contracts from the past, such as the repair of the Industrial Palace and Clam-Gallas Palace.
The building of Šlechtova Restaurant, formerly known as the Royal Pavilion, is a cultural monument. It was named after its last owner, Václav Šlecht. Its oldest part dates back to the late 17th century, and the structure was completed in the mid-19th century. In 1978 and two years later, the building was burned down, and since then it has been deteriorating. It was also damaged by the flood in 2002.
