Česká Lípa - The new swimming pool in Česká Lípa should be completed in April, so that the technology can be tested before the start of the summer season. Jitka Volfová (ANO), the mayor, told ČTK. The work should not be significantly delayed, although the municipality has expanded the project. They decided to relocate the 3D maze and renovate the popular water playground, which will cost an additional nine million crowns. The new swimming pool, costing approximately 300 million crowns, is the largest project in the modern history of the town.

Construction began last March, and the pool with attractions is being built by a consortium of companies Metrostav DIZ and CL-Evans next to a flooded quarry in the Česká Lípa part of Dubice, where swimming has been banned for years due to the overpopulation of blue-green algae. The water cannot be cleaned there. The new complex will connect to attractions such as the cable water ski or the 3D maze that were already there. Builders have constructed a large pool with water attractions and two swimming lanes covering more than 900 square meters, a small pool, a wading pool, and facilities.

"Originally, the 3D maze was supposed to stay in its place and just be renovated, now it will be moved away from the pool to the service road, the pergola will be repaired, a new path to the bike park will be made, and a fence will be built near the mini-golf, where some elements will be replaced. We will also replace water play features because they were original and didn't fit into the new, beautiful project, and a higher quality surface can be put there,” Volfová listed the changes.

There have been several plans for the swimming pool in the town of 37,000 inhabitants over the last 30 years. The municipality originally considered construction in Dubice, but the previous city leadership led by the ČSSD prepared the construction of a swimming pool next to the Sports Complex in the center. The project, costing about 108 million crowns, was criticized due to its location. The new city leadership headed by ANO decided to abandon the plan and return to the plans in Dubice. The project was developed by the company Centroprojekt Group, which has previously collaborated on swimming pools and aquaparks in Pasohlávky, Hradec Králové, as well as in Slovakia in Poprad or in Poreč, Croatia.

The area around Dubice is intended to be transformed by the municipality into a recreational area with a picnic meadow, a campsite, caravan parking, and access to the river. The goal is, according to Volfová, for the use of the area to be not limited to just the summer season but to be utilized year-round. The municipality is also adjusting public transport due to the swimming pool. "There will be a pick-up and drop-off stop right at the swimming pool,” said the mayor.
