Česká Lípa – Not only a swimming pool and water features, but also parking for caravans or beach volleyball courts, all of this is to be offered by the new swimming area in Dubice, which is being prepared by Česká Lípa. The town hall has now presented a study of the new outdoor facility, prepared for the city by the Zlín company Centroprojekt Group. Work is now starting on the project for the building permit, and next year the city wants to find a contractor. The first visitors should be welcomed in 2023, said the town hall spokesperson Kristýna Kňákal Brožová today to ČTK.

The pool is to be located next to a flooded quarry in Dubice, where swimming has been banned for years due to an overgrowth of cyanobacteria. "Česká Lípa needs a swimming pool; we have been calling for this for 30 years. So far, no one has managed to adequately clean the natural water so that it can be swum in all summer," said Mayor Jitka Volfová (ANO) to ČTK. However, the town hall wants to utilize what Dubice already offers to visitors in the natural area, such as a 3D maze, water skiing, and other attractions.

The project for the facility was commissioned by the city from a company that has an experienced implementation team and has completed several similar projects. Centroprojekt Group has previously collaborated on swimming pools and aquaparks in Pasohlávky, Jeseník, Hradec Králové, as well as in the Slovak town of Poprad and the Croatian town of Poreč. In Dubice, the study includes a large pool with water play features and two swimming lanes covering an area of 933 square meters, a slide, and chutes with a landing pool, as well as a children's pool covering an area of 210 square meters. It will also include new facilities for visitors, including toilets, showers, changing rooms, and a large outdoor refreshment area.

There have been several plans for a swimming pool in the city with 37,000 inhabitants. Originally, construction was considered in Dubice, but the previous city leadership led by the ČSSD prepared the construction of a swimming pool next to the Sports Arena in the center. However, the project, estimated at around 108 million crowns, faced criticism due to its location. The new city leadership led by ANO has decided to abandon this plan and return to plans in Dubice. "We fully realize that Česká Lípa has been waiting a long time for its swimming pool. That is why we have put extra effort into the final design. It is the maximum we can prepare in the Dubice area; we must consider flood restrictions," Volfová added.
