Česká Lípa - The construction of a swimming pool will begin in the recreational area of Dubice in Česká Lípa. The project, which will cost 290 million crowns, is the largest investment in the modern history of the city, which will finance the expensive construction from its own funds. The city has money prepared for this in its investment fund. The new recreational area is expected to welcome its first visitors in the summer season of 2024, said the mayor of Česká Lípa, Jitka Volfová (ANO), to ČTK today. On Wednesday, March 1, the city will hand over the construction site to the consortium of companies Metrostav DIZ and CL-Evans.
There have been several plans for a swimming pool in the city with 37,000 inhabitants over the last 30 years. Originally, construction in Dubice was considered, but the previous city leadership led by the ČSSD prepared the construction of a swimming pool next to the Sports Area in the center. The project, costing approximately 108 million crowns, was criticized due to its location. The new city leadership led by ANO decided to abandon the plan and return to plans in Dubice. The project was developed by Centroprojekt Group, which has previously collaborated on swimming pools and aquaparks in Pasohlávky, Hradec Králové, as well as in Slovakia in Poprad or in Poreč, Croatia.
"This is a historical moment for us, the swimming pool should be completed next spring, after which there will be a testing of all technologies," added Volfová. The pool with attractions will be built next to a flooded quarry in Dubice, where swimming has been banned for years due to an excessive amount of blue-green algae. The water there is difficult to clean. The new area will connect with attractions like a water ski lift or a 3D maze that are already there. Builders will construct a large pool with water attractions and two swimming lanes covering more than 900 square meters, a small pool, and a wading pool.
"The area has amazing potential; we would like to start working on the project documentation now, where terrain modifications should be made in another part of the area, where we would like to have a picnic meadow, we would like to have a campsite there because one part is an active flood area, so no buildings can be placed there," said Volfová. According to her, minigolf is expected to be renovated, and in the future, the town hall is planning to create parking for caravans.
