Prague - The Modřany sugar factory will only be remembered in two years by the names of two residential buildings that Skanska Reality will build on its site. A total of 48 apartments will be available, the developer announced during today's sales launch. The construction of the buildings, which the company will start at the turn of the third and fourth quarters, is expected to be completed in 2016. Skanska did not disclose the construction costs.
The houses from the second phase of the project "U cukrovaru" will be named Elča and Emča. "The name of the residential villa Elča is derived from the famous tea cubes that Modřany sugar factory produced in the first half of the 20th century, which originally stood at the site of the project," said company spokesperson Ondřej Svatoň. The Elča tea cubes (Elite tea) were patented in 1933 and had lemon or rum flavors.
The apartments in the buildings will range from 2+kk with an area of 52 m² to 5+kk with an area of 117 m² and a large terrace. Both buildings will be energy-efficient, thanks in part to solar panels on the roofs.
Developers sold a total of 1,350 new apartments in the capital in the first quarter of this year, according to joint statistics from Trigema, Ekospol, and Skanska Reality, which is an 11 percent increase year-on-year. The most popular district is Prague 9, where developers reported about a third of that number.
