Karlovy Vary - Three spa towns from the Karlovy Vary region, which, along with other spa towns in Europe, are striving for inclusion on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list, are also promoting their nomination at this year's Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The presentation also has an educational aspect, said ČTK Mayor of Karlovy Vary Andrea Pfeffer Ferklová (ANO).
The joint booth features Karlovy Vary, Františkovy and Mariánské Lázně, as well as eight other spas from Europe. Visitors can learn about the uniqueness of these spas, which experienced their peak bloom at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, next to the Vřídlo colonnade.
"To make it more interesting for visitors, we have prepared a UNESCO bar. Because Karlovy Vary is not only a smoke-free city but also a city that tries to protect the environment, we encourage people to be more moderate and really drink and eat only as much as they need. Our bar is called 'Unes What... you eat or drink' and we try to prompt people to realize that not everywhere in the world is there enough water and food," Pfeffer Ferklová stated.
In addition to raising awareness, the spa towns' booth also has a charitable purpose. From each drink, five crowns will go to the city foundation's account, and the proceeds will be donated either to environmental protection or to help with leukemia treatment, for example.
At the improvised beach next to the Vřídlo, visitors can not only relax and learn something about the spa towns but also perhaps do some sports.
