Kolín will build a sports hall for about 100 million crowns

Kolín - Kolín will build a new sports hall in the Borky municipal district. The project has been discussed for several years, and the city has now announced a tender for the contractor. The designers anticipate costs exceeding 100 million crowns, but it is possible that these costs can be reduced due to the tender. If everything goes according to plan, construction should start this year, with completion ideally in 2021, Mayor Michael Kašpar (Change for Kolín) told reporters today.

The new sports hall will be single-story, with a design that emerged from an architectural competition. The hall will feature a playing field measuring 40 by 25 meters, making it suitable for sports such as handball or floorball. In addition to the playing field, the hall will also have benches, tribunes, facilities for athletes, and a clubhouse. A parking lot offering more than 80 spaces will be built alongside the hall. The access road will be expanded, and new greenery will be planted.

The construction will be divided into four phases. The city plans to impose strict penalties in the contract, and the construction company will be penalized for delays in individual phases, not just for delays in the overall project.

The city has also set strict conditions in the tender itself; bidders will need to provide specific references and experience with similar-sized constructions. Companies have 45 days to submit their bids instead of the legal 30 days, with the winner of the competition expected to be announced around mid-September.

According to Kašpar, the new hall will be energy-efficient, reducing annual energy costs by about half. The city is expected to spend around 250,000 crowns a year on energy for the hall instead of the initially estimated nearly 500,000 crowns.

Kolín has applied for a grant from the Operational Programme for the Environment, which could provide up to 40 million crowns.

The idea to build a sports hall for floorball, handball, futsal, and volleyball came from athletes who do not have facilities in Kolín and must travel outside the city for home matches.
