Kolín - Kolín is currently having a study prepared for a sports hall in the Borky district. The city hall has reached out to three architectural firms, which have until mid-June to prepare the study. Kolín will then select the most successful design, which will be further developed and used as the basis for the project. A key condition of the study is the construction cost, which must not exceed 45 million including VAT. This was stated today by the deputy mayor of Kolín, Michael Kašpar (STAN).

In addition to the hall itself, the study is expected to address parking, public spaces in the vicinity, and infrastructure for cyclists, as the hall will be located near bike paths.

By the end of this year, the city aims to have the project completed, with construction starting next year. Kolín's mayor, Vít Rakušan (STAN), noted that the city will build the hall using its own resources, ideally with the help of a grant. "We definitely do not want to take out any loans for the construction," he stated.

Furthermore, the Kolín leadership does not want to build just an ordinary prefabricated hall. "We want to leave something for the future in Kolín that will be nice to look at. No one will admire an ordinary prefabricated hall in forty years," Rakušan said.

The idea to build a sports hall for floorball, handball, futsal, and volleyball came from athletes who lack proper facilities in Kolín and must travel outside the city for home games. The city aims to prepare for a grant application through the study and proper project documentation, thus increasing its chances of obtaining it.

Kolín is a city with nearly 31,000 inhabitants. This year, it is operating with revenues and expenses of 1.086 billion crowns. The city's finances are long-term burdened by a significant debt of over 500 million crowns, which arose during the development of the industrial zone and housing for the TPCA car manufacturer.
