Kolín - Kolín has postponed the construction of a smaller prefabricated sports hall for about twenty million crowns in the Borky district for the second time. According to the initial plan, construction was to begin this year, but after discussions with athletes, the city council later decided to dedicate this year to project preparations. Now the project design is also being postponed. The city wants to commission a study for the new hall first. The entire project will be delayed by about a quarter of a year. This was stated today by Kolín's Deputy Mayor Michael Kašpar (STAN).

"We believe it is better to have a study prepared before starting the design phase. Our city architect has already recommended several firms that specialize in these types of halls," said Kašpar. According to him, the city will subsequently announce a closed competition for three studies, and will follow the best one. "It's a bit of a longer and more demanding path, but we believe it's the right one," Kašpar added.

The idea to build a sports hall for floorball, handball, futsal, and volleyball came from athletes who lack facilities in Kolín and have to travel outside the city for home matches. The city wants to prepare for a grant application through the study and proper project documentation, thus increasing the chances of obtaining it. Ideally, construction should begin next year.

In the future, Kolín also plans to build a large sports hall in the area of the Water World; according to Kašpar, the construction of the smaller sports hall does not impact these plans. "The smaller hall will not cater to basketball players or for hosting concerts, for example. It will be intended for smaller sports, which are practiced by over 500 people in Kolín," Kašpar explained why the city wants to build both halls.

Kolín is a city with nearly 31,000 inhabitants. This year it is operating with revenues and expenditures of 1.086 billion crowns. The city's finances are long burdened by a significant debt of over 500 million crowns, which arose during the construction of the industrial zone and housing for the TPCA car factory.
